Pressure Drill #2

Serve In The Court Or Else!

In this drill, all nine girls had to work together to reach a serving goal. Each girl needed two balls. Players then began serving their 2 balls at any pace they wished. After they served those 2 balls, they would jog and shag them. Our goal: 48 of 50 serves in the court. If we didn't reach 48 of 50, I gave the players two options:

  1. do consequences for each "in the court" serve they came up short of 38 or
  2. serve another 50 balls, see if the team can reach 96 of 100, and do double consequences for each "in the court" serve they came up short of 96!

My team only got 46 the first time, chose option (2) and ended up with 95 in the court; ALL RIGHT!

Note: Your weaker servers may decide to shag slower and, without being detected, allow stronger servers to pass them.

I know why they are doing it, but I try to prevent this by requiring they serve in order by jersey number or by age.
